Up to 3.3 PB in one 2U node.* Your price in one business day.
For the teams who run block, file and object storage side by side: IBM Storage Ceph, sized to your data by our engineering team and priced before you commit.
One of our engineers replies within one business day.
Your next storage can serve all three.
- It serves block, file and S3-compatible object storage from one cluster.
- It starts small and grows without disruption, from 2 to 300 CS1 systems.
- It runs on your own servers, on IBM’s CS1 appliance, or as a managed service.
The storage you run today may be serving you well. This is what Storage Ceph adds.
We size it with you. You see your price first, within one business day.
One cluster for block, file and object.
IBM says one Storage Ceph cluster serves S3 and Swift object, NVMe-oF block, and NFS, SMB and CephFS file, with no separate system for each.
Object storage on your own premises.
IBM says its S3-compatible object storage keeps close to AWS services, with IAM, server-side encryption and Object Lock, and replicates across locations, public clouds included.

Three of IBM’s own figures.
Up to 3.3 PB in 2U.
Physical capacity in one IBM Fusion Storage Node CS1, with up to 32 FlashCore Module 5 drives.*
From 211 TB to 1 exabyte.
Raw capacity of one CS1 cluster, from the minimum of two systems up to 300, added without disruption.*
Up to 6:1 compression in the drive.
IBM’s figure for FlashCore Module drives on highly compressible data. Compression runs in hardware and is always on.*
* IBM’s figures for the IBM Fusion Storage Node CS1, from IBM’s datasheet of July 2026: capacity is physical (per system) or raw (per cluster), before compression; a cluster starts at two CS1 systems; up to 6:1 compression applies to highly compressible data. IBM says effective capacity can exceed 2× the physical capacity. CS1 runs IBM Storage Ceph 9.1 and later.

Pick the way that fits.
Four ways, as IBM lists them: software only, on new or existing infrastructure; IBM Fusion Storage Node CS1, a 2U appliance built for Storage Ceph; as a managed service, cloud storage in your own data center; or IBM Fusion, IBM’s data intelligence platform.

What you get.
If you run infrastructure.
You get one cluster in place of separate block, file and object systems, sized to the data you hold. One CS1 holds up to 3.3 PB in 2U.* Our engineering team stays with you through cutover.
If you run Kubernetes or OpenStack platforms.
You get block, file and object storage for your clusters through the Container Storage Interface, and a storage back end for OpenStack, as IBM describes it. We size it to your workloads with you.
If you are the CIO.
You get one storage platform for data lakes, backup and private cloud, with no lock-in, in IBM’s words, and the number before you commit. Pay only for what you need. See your price first, within one business day.
You have real choices. Here is each one, plainly.
Keep the storage you have.
Nothing to buy. Nothing to move. What Storage Ceph adds will still be here when you are ready.
Buy from IBM itself.
IBM sells directly to fewer than about 100 companies and organizations in the United States. Everyone else buys through an IBM Business Partner. So the real choice is which partner.
Buy through another IBM Business Partner.
Same IBM software. Same IBM programs. Ask three things: who sizes the cluster, how soon you see the price, and who is with you at cutover.
Choose a different storage platform.
Right when your team already runs it everywhere. Compare three things: block, file and object from one cluster, S3 that keeps close to AWS, and growth without disruption.
Build your own Ceph cluster.
Right when your team has the Ceph engineers to choose the hardware, validate it and tune it. IBM says its CS1 appliance reaches operational readiness in days instead of months.
Buy it through us.
You get the same IBM Storage Ceph. And you get our engineering team: we size the cluster with you, show you your price first, and stay with you through cutover.
IBM builds the software and the appliance. We size it with you.

We would rather tell you now. Storage Ceph is not the fit if everything you run already lives in a public cloud and will stay there, if your storage is one array that serves you well, or if what you need most is block storage for critical transaction databases. For that last one, ask us about FlashSystem.
